What it does for you

Gently exfoliates

Our toner is formulated with gluconolactone, a naturally occurring polyhydroxy acid (PHA) with exfoliating properties. It has larger molecules than other acids, which means it penetrates the skin less deeply, making it extra gentle and safe to use on sensitive skin.

Improves skin barrier

The addition of naturally derived prebiotic inulin supports the skin’s protective microorganisms and helps reduce the growth of harmful bacteria. This keeps the surface of your skin healthy and balanced for a visibly improved appearance.

Locks in moisture

Apply YAY's exfoliating toner to moisturize your skin directly after cleansing. Our formulation also contains allantoin, a natural hydrator with skin-soothing benefits.

Key Ingredients

PHA (Gluconolactone 3%)

A polyhydroxy acid naturally derived from corn and extremely suitable for sensitive skin. This ultra-gentle exfoliant offers many of benefits, such as improving the skin’s barrier function and protection against UV and blue light.

Inulin

Extracted from chicory root and agave, inulin is a natural prebiotic that acts as a skin rebalancer. It supports skin health and helps to remoisturize by absorbing water.

Chamomile Extract

A natural antioxidant traditionally used as a skin calming agent thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties.

Allantoin

This skin soothing ingredient reduces redness, aids skin repair and accelerates the renewal of the skin’s outermost layer. Allantoin is also a master in moisturization.

Panthenol

Panthenol, or pro-vitamin B5, is a softening skin rejuvenator known for reducing inflammation. Its soothing properties make it highly suitable for sensitive skin.

Frequently asked questions

  • No, apply the toner to your face and not on the eye area.

  • → We’ve intentionally formulated our toner with a polyhydroxy acid (PHA). The risk of skin irritation is greatly reduced when using a PHA instead of traditional alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs).

→ You may notice that your skin is a bit red at first, but this should only be minimal as the larger PHA molecules do not penetrate the skin as deeply.

→ If you feel a slight stinging or notice some redness, build up your routine slowly by applying toner every other evening, then increase to every evening before using it every morning and evening.

  • → AHA stands for alpha hydroxy acid and is most beneficial on dry skin. The best-known AHA is glycolic acid, which can penetrate the skin easily due to its small molecular size. However, this deeper and faster penetration can also lead to skin irritation, which makes AHAs less suitable for use on sensitive skin. Additionally, AHAs can increase sun sensitivity, so there is a risk of skin damage when exposed to UV rays.

→ Beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) are oil-soluble acids that work best on oily and acne-prone skin as they dissolve build-up to prevent blocked pores. Salicylic acid is the most common BHA but must be avoided by those with an allergy to aspirin as it can cause a reaction. Another downside is that BHAs are often too harsh for irritation-prone skin. Like AHAs, they can also increase sensitivity to the sun.

→ A polyhydroxy acid (PHA) is both a gentle exfoliant and an excellent skin hydrator. Our PHA toner contains gluconolactone, which has comparable benefits to AHAs – such as improving skin nourishment and texture – but without the irritation. Better still, gluconolactone does not make your skin more sensitive to UV light, so it is safe to use in the sun.

  • Yes. Unlike alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), gluconolactone is proven not to increase sun sensitivity. However, you should always apply sunscreen over your skincare to protect your skin.

  • → We only use a very small concentration of hypoallergenic fragrance to give this product a pleasant subtle smell. The maximum amount of fragrance added is between 0.10% and 0.25%, whereas similar skincare products can contain 1% perfume or more. Therefore, the chance of an allergic reaction is minimal.

→ Our fragrance does not contain allergens such as citronal, linalool and limonene.

→ Although the chance of irritation is minimized, no product can ever be considered allergy-proof. If you have a known (perfume) allergy, test this product on your arm fold first.

  • A hypoallergenic fragrance is known to have reduced allergy potential compared to regular fragrances. For this reason, hypoallergenic fragrance is preferable for those with sensitive or irritation-prone skin.
